The Environmental Protection Agency Gorj, in partnership with the University of Bucharest and Invisible Nature, implements a project of ecological reconstruction on the Gilort River between September 1st, 2017 and March 31st, 2022<\/p>\n

The official launch of the FISH FOR LIFE project The rehabilitation of migratory corridors and habitats for Gilort River reophile fish species - LIFE16 NAT \/ RO \/ 000778<\/em> took place on Monday, December 4th 2017 in Targu Jiu, with the participation of local authorities and decision-makers from the area of Natura 2000 site and the Gilort River Basin.<\/p>\n

The FISH FOR LIFE project<\/em> aims to restore the connectivity of the Gilort River and to improve the diversity of habitats for reophile fish species (species living in flowing waters). In this respect, a series of structural measures (fish passages in Albeni and Targu Carbunesti) and morphological (restoring the natural characteristics of the riverbed) shall be implemented.<\/p>\n

It is an ambitious and innovative project for Romania, targeting a river that hosts a number of species with an unfavorable conservation status at European level. The proposed intervention measures are intended to improve the chances of perpetuating these species. Nicolae Calma, project manager, EPA Gorj<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n

Through pioneering measures and the proposed integrated approaches - creating thresholds to allow species migration along the Gilort River course, stabilizing the banks, creating habitats for feeding, resting and reproducing - the project aims to improve the status of the present species, but also to contribute to a sustainable development of human communities.<\/p>\n

The project also provides actions to raise awareness of the local population about the importance of preserving fish species and habitats in the Natura 2000 River Gilort site and the long-term benefits that they can generate.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
