The Fish For Life project implementation team, coordinated by the IchtyofaunistIstvan Falka, conducted a scientific fishing campaign the Gilort River and its main tributaries (Galbenul, Ciocadia) during July 20-22. This is being done within the action of monitoring the conservation status of fish and macro-invertebrates populations. The campaign took placewithin Novaci, Balcesti, Bengesti-Ciocadia and Pociovaliste areas.
Harvesting was done by electrofishing, the captured specimens being released after identification and measurement (standard length, in mm - from the mouth to the caudal fin), at approx. 20 minutes after capture. Last but not least, information on the habitats from which the measured specimens were harvested was collected.
The aim of the fishing campaigns is to make a more accurate inventoryof the species and number of specimens per species and hence a characterization of the conservation status, the pressure exerted on each species (from natural or antropic factors) and conservation measures what needed to be taken.
Below we present several images captured in the field with the team at work.
