EPA Gorj received and approved the technical project for the construction of the second passage for fish on Gilort River, at the overflow threshold of the bridge on DN67B, in Targu Carbunesti. The existing spillway threshold is almost 4 m high, which is why fish of the species targeted by the project cannot cross it. In order to allow their passage, it was decided to build a "staircase with vertical slots" that includes 22 basins (delimited by vertical slots).

The technical project provides a series of landscaping works to be carried out, divided into five categories:

  1. Works upstream of the existing threshold, where a cleaning of sediment and spontaneous vegetation of the riverbed will be done and the completion will be carried out with embarkment from river boulders (approx. 200 kg / piece). The installation of raw stone boulders (rocks, 7 pcs., 450 kg / pcs.) will be made on concrete foundations, with the role of energy dissipators. Also, the riverbed will be regularized on an area of 3000 square meters.
  2. Works on the existing threshold,that require local repairs to the reinforced concrete plate. In isolated cases, where there are detachments of the concrete from it, an over-concreting will be carried out.
  3. Works downstream of the overflow threshold, consisting of local repairs to the existing wall by pouring simple concrete and stone, as well as filling the existing prefabricated with concrete. Also, large boulders will be installed to protect the designed passage (20 pieces of 450 kg / piece). The arrangement of the riverbed will also be done with boulders. To direct the water at the exit from the threshold, three large boulders groynes (450 kg / piece) will be made, arranged in 3 + 2 rows, placed directly on the trough. The recalibration of the riverbed between the groynes will be done with ballast and pebbles (local materials).
  4. Passage works. There will be a central passage for fish to migrate, with a length of 23.93 m and a width of 7.20 m, of the “ladder with vertical slots” type. The ladder will have a length of 55.00 m, which will include 22 pools, delimited by vertical slots. In order to avoid the penetration of floating materials on the passage, a softwood floating beam will be made, caught in the flanges in front of the threshold. In order to avoid unpleasant events regarding poaching, the passage will be covered with a welded mesh grate along its entire length. The grill will be provided with frames and hinges for folding on sections. Downstream, the entrance to the passage will be arranged with stone trapped in the concrete. A side ramp will be built on the right bank, made of rock-solid concrete, which will be located 25 cm from the level of the overflow threshold that will operate at high water levels. The ramp will have a length of 15.00 m and a maximum width of 5.00 m.
  5. Arrangement of access road and riverbed diversion. The arranged access road will be made with 25 cm ballast, on a length of 200 m, with a width of 4 m.

On December 30, 2020, the order was given to start the construction works of the passage from Tg Carbunesti, estimating that they will last approximately 17 months.
